Eclipses
Even the average person with zero interest in astrology has heard whispers of the portent associated with eclipses. They’ve become part of our social DNA. Eclipses are far more complex than you might think, however. I feel like I’m only scratching the surface of understanding them.
Reading astrologer Bernadette Brady’s book Predictive Astrology: The Eagle and The Lark has been eye opening in regards to understanding eclipses. What I’ve gleaned from her work is the bulk of this post.
The oldest written records on the timing of eclipses are from ancient Babylon, 747 BCE, nearly 3000 years ago. Babylonian astronomers figured out how to predict the timing of an eclipse through mathematical calculations. By the 4th century BCE, it was discovered that eclipses were part of a series. In the 10th century CE (AD), the Greek lexicographer Suidas coined this eclipse series as “saros”, which means repetition.
The Babylonians discovered that if a solar eclipse occurred, a lunar eclipse would follow. It was the solar eclipse that was mathematically calculated to determine cycles. Each solar eclipse and its resulting lunar eclipse express the characteristics of each particular Saros Series. Each series can last an average of 1280 years.
When the moon passes between the Sun and Earth, a solar eclipse occurs. When the Earth passes between the Sun and the Moon, a lunar eclipse occurs. A solar eclipse can affect external events, while a lunar eclipse can be more internally felt.
At any given time, there are about 42 active Saros Series – half of them running from the North to South Poles, the other half running from the South to North Poles. Think of them visually like rings of circumference gradually moving up or down the surface of the Earth.
Each year, there are two eclipse seasons. One at the North node and the other at the South node. We have already experienced the North node solar and lunar eclipses this year in the spring of 2022. The first was a solar eclipse on April 30th at 10 degrees Taurus, the other was a lunar eclipse on May 16th at 25 degrees Scorpio.
Each eclipse series will begin as a partial eclipse, then gradually peak (over hundreds of years) to total eclipses the closer they move by degrees towards the nodal (lunar) axis. As you can imagine, this is a very gradual build over 1280 years.
The Great American Eclipse at August 21, 2017 was at 29 degrees of Leo from the 1 North Saros Series. If we do have an accurate birth time for Donald Trump, then this eclipse was 0 degrees conjunct his Leo Ascendant at 29 degrees. For an eclipse to have a significant impact on one’s natal chart (specially conjunctions and oppositions), it needs to be within 2 degrees. This eclipse was also conjunct the fixed star Regulus at 29 degrees of Leo.
I remember astrologers discussing at that time that the 2017 eclipse would be significant for Trump because of its direct impact on his natal chart. Early English astrologers associated Regulus in the natal chart with riches, fame and power. “Regal” or kingly status, in other words.
However, there is a dark side to Regulus. While it may bring notoriety and fame, one born under it should behave responsibly, since this fame can be temporary. Seeking revenge or destructiveness can reverse good fortune. Trump acting dishonorably, and frankly childishly, when he bullied that the 2020 election was rigged has not worked out well for him.
Now, this isn’t to say that the FBI raid of Trump’s classified documents was lawful in any way. What we are currently witnessing in U.S. politics is beyond portentious superstition. The events that have been transpiring are based on careless (even if calculated) acts of desperation.
Here is something really fascinating from Brady’s book. Prince William was born on June 21, 1982 on a solar eclipse in Cancer. This eclipse is part of the Saros Series called 2 Old North. Being born on a solar or lunar eclipse will have a dramatic impact on the native (Donald Trump was actually born on a lunar eclipse).
Whichever Saros Series an eclipse belongs to will, in many ways, present a major theme for that person’s life. Saros Series 2 Old North, under which Prince William was born, began in 792 CE. The tradition of the monarchy began in 802 CE with King Ecgberht of England. This particular Saros Series will end in July 2036. This could mean that Prince William represents the end of the British Monarchy.
The upcoming solar and lunar eclipses this fall of 2022 will be on the 6 S(south) Saros Series. The next solar eclipse will be on October 25, 2022 at 2 degrees Scorpio. The next lunar eclipse will be on November 8, 2022 at 16 degrees Taurus. Brady defines the 6 S Saros Series as follows:
This eclipse series is about being forceful and taking power. It has a manic flavor about it, with great force or strength manifesting in the relationship area. Individuals experiencing this Saros Series may experience sudden events, like falling in or out of love, or sudden sexual encounters. The individual may also exert a huge effort in some group activity.
If you are at all interested in predictive astrology, I highly recommend reading Bernadette Brady’s books.
