Is Astrology Real?
I feel like I used to have this debate a lot more frequently than I do now. The Universe tests us in myriad ways. We need to be honest with ourselves about anything to which we dedicate years of study and analysis. Whatever discipline that may be, it was not ordained by God. Any discipline we choose was created by humans.
Astrology is not a discipline that was passed down to us from the cosmos. It’s a language we created to impart meaning to our existence; to understand cyclical events. Does this make astrology fake? No more so than any human creation could be considered fake. You could say the same about mathematics or even psychology. Are those disciplines fake? Even astronomy is limited by human perception.
I also don’t need to dive into new age cliches and say that everything is an illusion. That isn’t helpful. Declaring that we are living in a simulation may be true, but that doesn’t provide support for how to deal with suffering, grief and real-life traumas.
If physicists are right about The Big Bang, then at one time, all matter and energy were unified. We cannot know that for sure, but does it matter? Even those of us who aren’t scientists spend a good portion of our lives trying to understand why certain things hold together and others break apart.
Having an interdisciplinary approach to the world is what helps develop better conversations. It’s about curiosity. Maybe all of it is nonsense, but at least its creative.
Astrology, astronomy, biology, psychology, language, mathematics….all of these disciplines involve pattern recognition. Without that, we wouldn’t have a reason to study anything. Everything would be chaos.
The Sun comes up every morning and goes down each night; a pattern begins.
If all we really understand as humans after many millennia is that patterns repeat themselves, then so be it.
